Start Flying Here

The club welcomes new members to the club, including junior members accompanied by a parent or guardian, as these are ultimately the future of the hobby.  If you would like to join the AMFC and already hold a minimum of a BMFA Fixed Wing A Certificate then please contact us to arrange to visit our flying field.  The AMFC lets prospective new members fly with us for two days so that you can decide if the AMFC is right for you.

If you are new to the hobby, and do not own your own model and equipment, the club can offer you some flights using an instructor’s plane and buddy box transmitter.  You will be able to fly the plane, but if things go wrong the instructor can instantly take over controlling the model.  Once the plane is back under control he will give you control again.  This will give you some flight time to help you decide if you would like to take up the hobby before committing to the expense of buying a model and radio control equipment.

All members are required to have passed a minimum of the BMFA Basic Proficiency Test (BPC) before they will be allowed to fly solo although the club hopes that members will advance their flying skills and obtain at least a BMFA “A” Fixed Wing Test certificate as soon as practical.  Our membership also includes a BMFA Examiner and he can test you for your BMFA certificates when your training is complete.

Members who wish to learn to fly, or those who do not yet hold a suitable BMFA certificate, can be trained by club instructors but please be aware that places may be limited and this depends very much on how many other members are being trained at any one given time.
