Membership

Alton Model Flying Club is a private members club and is under no obligation to take membership from any person at any time.

The club seeks to promote a friendly and relaxed environment for the hobby of model flying and welcomes people of all ages and backgrounds.

It is the policy of the club, however that members must ensure they are fit and capable of flying a model safely and in line with published BMFA guidelines.

The club does not conduct assessments on member’s eyesight, health nor other key faculties required for this purpose – this remains at all times the responsibility of the member.

The club welcomes novice flyers under the tuition of club designated instructors.

Whilst this is a free of charge service the club endeavours to provide, there are only a limited number of instructors and tuition to new members cannot be guaranteed.

If there are a lot of novices requiring tuition, your forbearance is sought.

Enquiries for membership of Alton Model Flying Club should, in the first instance, should be addressed to the membership secretary Dave Durnford  (altonmodelflyingclub@outlook.com) by e-mail before sending any money.

At times that membership becomes over-subscribed, people not currently able to join may be able to add their names to a waiting list.

Applications are subject to a formal application process.

  • This begins with a visit to the flying field.
    • If you are a novice, you will be encouraged to have a flight or two on the day, flying one of the club trainers.  You will be on a buddy box so there’s no need to panic.
    • If you already have your BMFA ‘A’ certificate (or above) we invite you to come along and explore the site and talk to some of the members.  This will give the club the opportunity to see if your requirements will fit in to our flying regime.
  • If the visit to the flying site goes well, you will be offered an application form which we prefer to send by email.
  • It is necessary therefore to come and meet the club in order to make an application for membership.
  • The application form is subjected to due process and the Chairman will ratify it or otherwise at the next available opportunity.

The clubs membership year runs from 1st January to 31st December but for new members joining mid-year a pro-rata fee will apply for the first year.
